Volkswagen has unveiled a facelifted Polo ahead of the
car’s public debut at the Geneva motor show. The facelifted Polo will go on
sale in the UK from May in three-door and five-door guises. Revisions include new or updated engines, exterior styling
tweaks, an upgraded interior and new driver assistance systems.
VW has also worked on the Polo’s ride and handling
by giving ....
it an optional Sport Select suspension with two levels of damping stiffness, along with a new electromechanical steering system.

The facelifted Polo features a new front bumper and
a reworked grille. The headlamps are now available with an LED main beam function on upper end models.
At the rear is a subtly restyled bumper and
revised tail-lamps.
VW has attempted to lift the perceived quality of
the interior with a new three spoke steering wheel, altered instrument graphics
and a revised centre console. There are new controls for the air conditioning system,
the choice of either a five-inch or 6.5-inch touch screen, a range of optional infotainment
features and new rear camera to ease parking.
The Polo also gains a range of new driver
assistance and safety systems. These include a multi-collision brake feature that
automatically stops the car after a heavy impact, a fatigue warning function, a
radar-controlled distance control system that operates between 18mph and
100mph, and a collision prevention system
with emergency braking at below 18mph.
New to the petrol line-up is an 89bhp 1.0-litre
three cylinder engine in the Polo BlueMotion. It is claimed to return 68.9mpg
and 94g/km.
Reworked petrol engines include the 59bhp 1.2-litre
triple, which achieves 61.4mpg and 106g/km, aided by stop-start and brake energy recuperation.
The same engine is now also offered in 74bhp guise, 5bhp more than before.
Positioned above them are two updated turbocharged three-pot
1.2 TSI units with 89bhp and 108bhp.
The 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine with cylinder-on
demand technology in the Polo Blue GT gains 10bhp, taking it to 148bhp.
At the top of the new lineup is the Polo GTI, with a
more powerful version of the standard 1.4-litre four that develops 189bhp.
It is all change on the diesel side, with a trio of
1.4-litre three-cylinder units that have 74bhp, 89bhp and 104bhp. They replace
today’s 90bhp 1.2-litre triple and the 89bhp and 104bhp 1.6-litre four cylinder
engines.
The 74bhp version returns a combined 88.3mpg and 82g/km,
and the 89bhp unit is rated at 83.1mpg and
89g/km.
Depending on the engine, buyers will be able to
choose between a standard five or six speed manual or seven speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
